Top 10 Most Replayable Games - #4

I am teaming up with the folks at the Have Fun and Play Podcast (https://havefunandplay.com/) on Instagram @havefunandplay and we are sharing our Top 10 Most Replayable Games in celebration of Groundhog Day. What makes a game replayable? There are a lot of different reasons that you might want to play a game over and over.

I've not encountered another game anything like Roll Player. The way that the designer has magically managed to bring all the different elements of creating a Role Playing Game (RPG) character together, with all the theme that goes with that, is a brilliant marvel of modern game design.

Roll Player is an incredibly thematic dice game where the luck of your rolling plays a very small part in how well you do. Players are competing to create a fantasy adventurer by drafting dice to add to their character’s attributes.

Starting with character race, a backstory, and beginner attribute values gives you a strategic path and start you toward your individual goals.

There are a LOT of decisions to make in this game. I would put this in the medium-weight category of game for its level of complexity and the length of time it takes to play. Different colour dice will help you in different ways, and where you place them will score you points in different ways. Characters can train for additional skills, develop character traits, use special powers, purchase and/or set collect weapons and armour, and with the Monster and Minions expansion battle creatures along the way. Each of these different elements provide their own sets of decisions and ways to score "reputation points" for the end of the game.

Roll Player makes my replayable list because it is essentially a giant, moving puzzle where you are manipulating the dice (there are a lot of different ways to do that) and are juggling all other elements in the game to find the best, most optimal mix to score points.

Every game feels grand and unique and it always makes me want play it over and over in the hopes of developing some sort of mastery over it.
